1. The Drink

Happy reading 📚

The music was loud enough to shake the walls.

Exactly the kind of noise I needed tonight.

I tilted the glass in my hand, staring at the amber liquid swirling inside.

“Relax, Kiara,” Aarav laughed from across the table. “It’s just a drink.”

Just a drink.

If only I knew how wrong that sentence would become.

I took a sip anyway.

The taste was bitter.

Stronger than usual.

Aarav watched me carefully, a strange smile tugging at his lips.

“You look nervous,” he said.

I ignored him.

After everything he had done, the only reason I even agreed to meet tonight was closure.

But something felt wrong.

A strange heaviness settled in my body.

The lights in the club started blurring.

The music suddenly sounded distant.

“What did you put in my drink?” I whispered.

Aarav leaned back in his chair, completely relaxed.

“Relax, Kiara,” he repeated softly.

My fingers tightened around the glass.

The room tilted again.

People were moving, laughing, dancing—but their faces were turning into shadows.

Panic crawled up my spine.

I stood up too quickly.

My legs nearly gave out.

And that’s when I noticed him.

Across the room.

A tall stranger leaning against the bar.

Watching everything.

His eyes met mine.

Sharp.

Cold.

Observant.

Unlike everyone else in the room, he wasn’t distracted by the music or the crowd.

He was watching me.

And suddenly—

He started walking toward our table.

Aarav grabbed my wrist.

But before he could say anything, the stranger’s voice cut through the noise.

Calm.

Cold.

Dangerous.

“Let her go.”

"Now."
